Stairway to Calliope

Box.net is a tad slow, but it's running. Which is fine, because my newest "Stairway" is leisurely paced--mostly. The idea behind this one was to set the deathless bit of Zepp nonsense in triple meter and with a circus feel. Listening back, I'm amazed at how muted the percussion sounds in the completed file--the same percussion effects were hurting my ears on Noteworthy Composer®! But I knew that, once I'd transferred the sound and added the FX, the lower end would be lowered. And I was right. It must be that the file has a broader dynamic range prior to the necessary level adjusting. Sort of like a 78 that loses much of its punch on cassette. And we're talking two level adjustments.

Anyway, hurry, hurry. Step right up and take a stairway to calliope. (Stairway to... what??)--Confused barker.

Stairway to Calliope (Hartsfeld), Lee Hartsfeld, July 16, 2006. Composed on Noteworthy Composer® software.

In closing, let me say, "Bloop-bloop-doodle-loodle-bloop-bloop-bloop-bloop...."

Lee,

This could have been such a Hitchcockian fantasy. I really think you could delete the Barnum & Bailey circus theme and let this, as I thought you started to do, develop a kind of leisurely menace. Sort of "Strangers on a Train" meets Led Zeppelin with a pinch of Petrushka thrown in. This has so much potential. Don't go for the easy laughs.
