1928: THE WORLD'S FIRST SURFER ROBOT PRACTICES HIS MOVES

THE UFO STORY, PART 5: "OOPS, WRONG SUIT."

"Well, how about that? 3/4 of your planet is under water--so, naturally, we land in a dry spot. Be right back--gotta change my suit."

Sci-fi Halloween, Part 2

"Those new runway-cleaning devices are awesome! However, the water bill is gonna suck...."

Hold on to your seats (so to speak) as we blast off into cyberspace. (Or, The Vinyl Frontier.)

Get it? Vinyl Frontier? Ha, ha, ha!

Something tells me it's been used before.

This is my second time typing this post, and all because I tried to use the Alt key last time. Bev's computer thought I was trying to navigate away from the post. I turned on Num Lock, hit the Alt key again, and the post was no more. Whereupon, I uttered some not-nice things. Loudly.

It's been a long day.

Anyway, Omicron Visits Earth is a classic kiddie side by one Rege Cordic. There's a lot of stuff about him on the Web, so please check him out. If I had time, I'd link to something. The record, released on Bluebird, is from 1957 or 1958. I'm guessing 1957.

The 45 is warped, so there's some "woosh"-ing at the start. This noise mixes in rather nicely with the actual sound effects, but I thought I'd mention it, anyway.

The Flying Saucers Have Gone is my very own break-in effort from 2004. And there's the real thing, from 1956--Bill Buchanan and Dickie Goodman's The Flying Saucer, Pts. 1 and 2. It's dumb, but in a brilliant way. Brilliant-dumb. And hilarious.

Hugo Winterhalter's 2001 Space Odyssey Suite (that's the exact title!) starts out as normal as can be, but stick with it. You'll be glad you did.

It's About Time was the theme song for the 1966 TV series about astronauts temporarily stranded in caveman times. The same guy who gave us Gilligan's Island gave us this. I vaguely remember it from its first run. I thought it was neat. I was a kid.

Oh, and we have yet another Charles Grean classic--1947's (When You See) Those Flying Saucers, which I found in a thrift about three years ago. Maybe four.

All you have to do is click on this link to reach a folder containing all eight files.

Here's the playlist (but, remember, click on the above link!):

When You See Those Flying Saucers (Cy Coben--Charlie Grean), The Buchanan Brothers and the Georgia Catamounts. From RCA Victor 78.

Omicron Visits Earth, Parts 1 and 2, Rege Cordic and Company, 1957. From Bluebird 45.

The Flying Saucers Have Gone, Lee Hartsfeld, 2004. From me.

2001 Space Odyssey Suite, Hugo Winterhalter and His World Famous Orchestra, 1969 or 1970. From Musicor label LP.

Man from Mars, Ferrante and Teicher, 1955. From Soundproof LP.

It's About Time (Wylie-Schwartz-Fried), Wade Denning and the Port Washingtons, 1966. From Leo label LP.

The Flying Saucer, Parts 1 and 2, Buchanan and Goodman, 1956.

Calling Occupants of Interplanetary Craft (The Recognized Anthem of World Contact Day) (John Woloschuk-Terry Draper), Carpenters, 1977. From A&M 45.

A man and his cat. And his monsters. And camera.

My two other cats, Rosie and Bingo, aren't the least bit jealous that Perry is the featured feline for this post. But only because they don't know about it.

I'll bet you can't tell that I held the camera in front of a mirror for my self-portrait shots. (Ahh, that's why the camera is front and center in the photos!)

"I don't have to say anything--I, after all, am Perry."

"Vat are YOU lookink at??"

Me, looking at me looking at me in the camera.

"Must hold the camera perfectly still. And look totally natural. The lighting should help...."

Narrator: "...thanks to a material called plastic."
