Halloween 2008, Part 6!

Frankie got the series title wrong, by the way--it's Halloween 2008, Part 6. No dash. I didn't want to tell him, though, in case he was in a mood to rip my head off.

And, in fact, my preferred version is also incorrect. It should probably be Halloween, 2008--Part 6. Frankie was wrong, I was wrong. But there's a lesson in all this. Namely, if we could all see how alike we are in our wrongness, we could use that common ground to build a world in which all people are free. And happy. And allowed to vote even if their social security number is one digit off from the corresponding federal SSN database field.

Frankie, by the way, doesn't mind being known by the name of his builder (Victor Frankenstein), since "The Creature" is 1) less dignified and 2) is being used by another monster.

So, what can I say about today's 13-tune slaylist? I don't know--let me check and see what I put up. Ahh! Good stuff. Some obscure numbers, and some offbeat versions of well-known titles. Such as....

Josh Logan's Dinner with Drac and Witch Doctor, both from the late, great, highly cheap cover label Promenade. And a square dance version of The Thing. Annnnnnd a sound-alike version of Surfin' Bird from the Hit Parader label. No artist listed for the last, I'm afraid. Hit Parader never listed its artists.

We have the little-known He's Going to Eat Me Up, inspired by They're Coming to Take Me Away, the movie Jaws, and a line from the fairy-tale Little Red Riding Hood. This number is a Halloween regular, but (a Google check tells me) only at this blog. We have Elementary, My Dear Watson, another site regular, and one I finally have a date for--1960. Plus, we've got the title number from the 1956 Gerd Oswald suspense classic, A Kiss Before Dying.

Determined to make things even weirder, I've added four of my own strange concoctions, all strung together in one file--The Haunted Radio, Piano, Test Pattern, and Choir Room. These pieces are combinations of sound manipulations, live piano doodling on my Casio, and the multi-tracked "singing" voice of... me. Scarier than it sounds, believe me. "Sangria" is what I was singing in three parts at the very start of Choir, but it ended up sounding like... I'm not sure what.

Oddest of all, I don't even drink. Especially wine, which I don't like.

Oh, and Haunted Radio starts with a tiny segment of the narration to that theatre lobby 78 for The H-Man. In case you were wondering what on earth you were hearing.
