Dim, Dim the Lights

An excellent cheap-label cover version of the 1955 Bill Haley hit. I featured this back in June, but this is a "newer," better copy (from eBay).

I have some other fake hits (as I call them) to put up, so stay tuned.

Meanwhile, as I'm typing, letters and spaces are getting lost. What's p with that?

I mean, what's up with that? It only happens in Internet Explorer, and not in Mozilla.

Ah, who knows. To the music:

Dim, Dim the Lights--Bob La Mont, w. Lewis Everette's Orch.

Polka time!

Fabulous violin-and-accordion polka sides (well, a polka and an oberek) from the mid-Twenties. I don't have a dating guide for this particular Victor series, though I may be able to get some info from my few Victor catalogs of the period.

The artists are Walter Podosek and (?) Krupienski. Walter is mentioned on this page in a reproduction of a 1928 newspaper article.

Polka!!

Click here to reach zip file: Podosek and Krupienski

1. GORACE SERCE--POLKA (WARM HEART--POLKA)
2. RZNIJ WALENTY--OBEREK (Step Lightly, Valentine)

Podosek and Krupienski, violin and accordion duet, Polish (Victor 78446; circa 1925)

Warning: Arianna Huffington hosting Rachel Maddow Show tonight

I wish I were joking, but I'm not.

Rachel's guest-host judgment aside, I still like her show. I plan to watch it again starting Tuesday.

UPDATE: Bev plans to watch it. Maybe I'll give in and watch, too.

I'll keep everyone posted on any and all exciting developments.

SMG will return next week

No, not Super Mario Galaxy! Rather, Sunday Morning Gospel, which I almost had ready to go, but not quite. I'd underestimated the time it would take.

It all involved ripping tracks from two cassettes, and somehow I thought things would get done quickly. Well, no, since I was screening two hours' worth of music, all of which needed to be sound-edited to some extent. I realize this now. Live and learn.

I'll file this away in my "Lessons Learned" folder. (File, file.) There. Hey... wait a minute. What's this? (Read, read.)

Ah. It seems I did the same thing last year. And the year before. Dang. You know, maybe I should consult this folder more often. Lesson learned.

I'll file that away in the folder. "Check L.L. folder more often." Oh, wait--looks like I made that note before. And another time before that.

Anyway, SMG will be back next week with songs by Charles H. Gabriel. That's what I had on those two cassettes--Gabriel songs collected from a variety of thrifted LPs. Everything from O That Will Be Glory to As a Volunteer. There's even a recording of a fairly obscure Sunday School song by Gabriel, the name of which I can't remember. And the cassette is upstairs, so I can't consult it. I must make a note to check that.

(Write, write.) Just let me stick it in my "Things I Need to Do" folder. And I'll cross-file it in my L.L. folder, which I must remember to check more often.

In other news, last night's SNL was as bad as the show gets. The previous week had been brilliant, and I knew they wouldn't be able to follow it up, but I had no idea they'd try so hard not to.

Speaking of TV, don't forget to visit Diane Werts for your Christmas-on-TV (a.k.a. Yule Tube) news.
