Sunday morning gospel: Merry Christmas from the Blackwood Brothers (1979)

The jacket is actually a little closer to burgundy in color, but otherwise this is a decent image. I think, anyway. So rushed was this rip-and-post job that I've only had the chance to spot-listen to the selections. But what I heard sounded great. Not A-1 classic Blackwood, but very expertly done holiday music. And it occurs to me that I'm not sure how to spell "A-1 classic." What a time to discover that.

In other news, as I said last time, I don't even want to see another "Seasons Greetings" sign. I mean, it's "Season's Greetings." With an apostrophe. (Wasn't funny the the last time, either? Oh. Sorry.)

The Voice Box label (of Memphis, Tennessee) is a new one on me. No time to Google-research it. But it's the label we're hearing from today.

To the LP: Merry Christmas from the Blackwood Brothers (1979)

SLEIGHLIST

WHITE CHRISTMAS
THE FIRST NOEL
OH HOLY NIGHT
CHESTNUTS ROASTING
SILENT NIGHT, HOLY NIGHT
IT CAME UPON A MIDNIGHT CLEAR
JOY TO THE WORLD
HARK, THE HERALD ANGELS SING
OH COME ALL YE FAITHFUL
AWAY IN A MANGER

(Voice Bo 0779; 1979)

Thanks, Lee, for the double good gift today -- Christmas AND the Blackwoods. What a combination! I'm listening to it now and loving it.

Glad to hear! Terrific stuff.

And I trust you're doing even better. I was in such a rush, I forgot to include a well-wish. Sorry!

Oh Jesus, here comes the Christmas overload, as if "Jingle Bells" playing in every store and being used every five minutes on TV commercials ain't enough.

See you in January!

God Bless the people who have a tough time during the holidays, and the Christians who, loving Jesus as they do, still end up in agony several days short of the 25th, wishing the Christmas songs would STOP ALREADY.

To the ones who play hours of Christmas music every night and wander the malls singing along to "Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer," tell me what you've spiked your egg nog with!" (Enjoy your sleighlists, really...God bless you, every one.)

Thanks for sharing this one, Lee. It's been on my list of things to record for a while, but it never seems to make it to the top. I'm gonna re-share by Blackwood Brothers & Statesmen Christmas record tonight and point everybody over there to get this one, too.

Cool. Is the Blackwood/Statesmen one LP, or one each?

I ask because I have an RCA Blackwood Bros. album of the holiday variety.

Just checked your blog--I see it's a combo. Re stand-alone Statesmen holiday LPs, I don't know of any. But one may well exist.

Thanks for the very kind words!

That the RCA Blackwood Holiday LP of which you were thinking, or is there another one out there I need to look for?

Wait a minute....

The one I have IS the Blackwood/Statesmen LP. What did I say about my memory?

All true.

Any and all rumors of an all-Blackwood RCA Christmas LP are hereby denied....
