So, the back jacket credits "The World Famous Stamps Baxter Quartet" (no hyphen), but was there indeed such a group, as in a Stamps-Baxter Quartet? We know there were many such groups, i.e. groups associated with the Stamps-Baxter Music and Printing Co. of Dallas, Texas, and I've presented two versions of the Stamps (no "-Baxter") Quartet in previous SMG posts. But exactly who is singing on today's selections, I don't know. Their names do not appear in the credits.
It seems probable that this is either one of the many Stamps-Baxter quartets or else four SB singers recruited specially for this project. No matter. The group does a great job, and everything has the feel of old-fashioned Southern gospel. Sound-wise, the tracks are mostly fine, with a little needle wear coming into play (cha-dunk! crash!) here and there. (Get it? Coming into play?) In short, a zip that's hip. Well, in a certain specialized context.
Dot was no slacker outfit, but here they've taken the junk-label approach to titling the album, with a different name on either side of the jacket, and none on the label. Shades of Royale and Tops! We'll just go with Beloved Gospel Songs, since that appears on the front.

PLAYLIST
I'LL TRAVEL ON
WHEN MY SAVIOR COMES
JUST FOR YOU AND ME
TRY JESUS
REMEMBER ME
WHEN WE SING AROUND THE THRONE ETERNAL
I'M GONNA MOVE AWAY
I'VE GOT A WONDERFUL FEELING
HE WILL LEAD HIS CHILDREN HOME
WHEN THIS JOURNEY IS OVER
I'M A CHILD OF A KING
WHEN WE WALK ON THE HEAVENLY STREETS
(Beloved Gospel Songs--The Stamps-Baxter Quartet; Dot DLP-3258, 1959)
