Christmas Songs and Stories (Childcraft 1213)

Today's LP rip comes without a jacket (and, hence, no jacket scan), so I swiped this image from eBay--it's one of the Childcraft releases reissued for this various-artists collection. My copy of the LP has been played a lot, but I got a very clean rip, thanks to the de-clicking expertise of (This is not a plug) MAGIX's Audio Cleaning Lab 14.

At one point, I misplaced this rip and thought I'd accidentally deleted it. I was going crazy trying to figure out how I could have done so, but then I discovered that I hadn't. Which answered my question, I guess. Nothing solves a mystery like discovering it isn't one.

Too much time at the PC? You think? Anyway, to the extremely enjoyable sounds on today's zip. Oh, and, regarding the first four tracks, "Raines" is a typo. Only one e in his name ("Rains"): Christmas Songs and Stories

It is Claude Rains. Here's an article about the record from 1960: http://news.google.com/newspapers?nid=1298&dat=19601130&id=uaoRAAAAIBAJ&sjid=becDAAAAIBAJ&pg=4710,4108679

I was referring to "Raines" vs. "Rains." I misspelled his name on the file.

I have a copy of this record somewhere that was part of a 3-record set from Mercury. It was the only record of the three that I thought was any good. Nice to have some of those old tracks from 78 on vinyl. Vinyl I can work with, shellac is a little harder...

Lee,
Thanks for your time and effort on this great bit of Christmas sounds. Below are two very large links to Billboard magazine articles mentioning the record that I found while trying to date the album. The first is from the Oct 17, 1960 stating that this release would be the only Mercury Christmas album for 1960:

http://books.google.com/books?id=MiAEAAAAMBAJ&pg=PA1&lpg=PA1&dq=%22christmas+songs+and+stories%22+mercury+childcraft&source=bl&ots=ZzelhLpzU5&sig=eVa5cbn0YYedNE5ItlxBtcBYciA&hl=en&sa=X&ei=kEnrTuSQM5KltweuuKjwCg&ved=0CFgQ6AEwBQ

The second is from November 7, 1960 with a small review:

Thanks, Ron. And thanks, Anon. #1, for clarifying that the artist is Claude Rains. I forgot that I'd put "Prob. Claude Raines" on the file. D'oh!

My five brothers and sisters and I listened to this record with great joy in the early 1960's. The album got lost at some point over the years, and I've been searching for it, but couldn't remember the name of it -- just that it came from Childcraft. Childcraft was the key word in my search tonight that brought me to your website. I'm so happy to be able to hear these songs and the story of the Christmas tree again! Thank you so much for posting this record album!
