The War on Facts--another M(Y)PWHAE almost-rant

Weary of hearing the media's version of Christmas history, which after all is mainly a rebuttal of the Tea Party, I wrote this essay: The War on Facts--Christmas 2011 edition. It's over at my text blog for those who don't want a long post interrupting the music shares. Hey, I'm flexible. Though much less so than my younger days....

Anyway, Christmas has become the season for ridiculing the conservative plaint that Christ is being taken out of Christmas. Never mind that the conservatives are absolutely correct. No, I'm nothing close to a conservative, but I draw the line at misrepresenting history to score a point. When the right is right, it's right. And I envy them for the "right/right" correlation just illustrated.

So, mosey on over to my text blog and, if nothing else, enjoy the vintage-songbook scans I included with the essay.

Hi Lee..I posted what's below over on your other blog but have posted it here too....

I've cut and pasted "The War on Facts...Christmas 2011 edition"....and will digest it over Christmas Eve and beyond....we live (on this side of the pond) in a land dominated by our £ versus the Euro....and all trying to keep up with the $??

I recall, this moment, Christmas 1956...not just for the Dan Dare suits that brother and I got....not just that we knew we were to move home in 1957 to a house with 'electric-switches'...no not that and other concerns of 'this life'....what I most recall is going to my first Mid-night Watch Service...and singing some of the 'real good uns' and being aware of the BIRTH of such a baby that the world had/has never seen before....(the cross coming much later in my life), and while singing, being aware (I was 7 at the time) of the wonderful sound inside the kirk....alas 90%+ of those good folks are no longer here in this world with us...and I recall going out into the darkness, for the long walk home down Stewart's Brae, with the snow falling, creating a true Winter Wonderland....now Lee, go tell me where I can buy that memory?? Oh and my dad used to rave at the tv if he saw an actor wearing his army cap at the wrong angle....it sure takes one to no one....and facts are often played around with eroded and added to as the 'in vogue' voices seek to dominate our memories of 'truth'....it is a bit like Citizen Smith in 1984....when he, like all others in the canteen, rise to attention to hear Big Brother announce, "Great News the soup ration has been doubled!!!" and Citizen Smith, looking at his plate knows that it has been halved....
Have yourself a real Merry Christmas and God Bless and all praise be to Jesus....Amen.
