Sunday morning gospel--Wilderness Trail Gospel Sing; "Live! At Tar Hollow State Park," Part 2

Today, Part 2 of the hugely popular (24 downloads!) Part 1 of the 1975 Wilderness Trail Gospel Sing LP. Lots of wonderfully down-home singing, as well as a slick and memorable This Train by the P.T.L. Assembly, who apparently heard Johnny Cash's Folsom Prison Blues. (And, as we recall, Cash in turn had heard Gordon Jenkins' Crescent City Blues. This gets so complicated....)

On the mp3 info, I miscredited I Have More to Go to Heaven for to the J.C. Three--the actual artists are The Countrymen. I was looking at one line and typing another.

Sunday morning gospel--Wilderness Trail Gospel Sing: "Live! At Tar Hollow State Park," Part 1

Recorded July 26 and 27, 1975, at Tar Hollow State Park in Laurelville, Ohio. The musical styles range from bluegrass gospel to country, Southern, and praise-style gospel. There's even Mac Davis' I Believe in Music as I Believe in Jesus, as performed by The Daileys. It almost sounds as if the Daileys are using a pre-recorded backing, though it's hard to be sure, given the mediocre sound quality of this set. As you listen to these tracks, please remember that everything is live, and that the musicians very possibly couldn't hear one another with ease. I suspect a million-dollar sound set-up wasn't in place for this event.

A very interesting and entertaining document, regardless, with more to come next week when I present Part 2 of this two-LP set recorded by Carmac Records of Columbus, Ohio and pressed in Nashville TN.
