Sunday morning gospel: Terry Pillow Singers, Faith for Today TV Quartet

Just a note that today's selections weren't meant to thematically fit in with Epiphany--they're simply the contents of two 7" gospel discs I'd set aside for this series. One is a Royale label 45 EP featuring the Terry Pillow(!) Singers, the other a 7" vinyl Faith for Today-connected 78 (see above). I've always wanted to type "a 7" vinyl Faith for Today-connected 78." At last, my lifelong wish realized.

The Terry Pillow material turns out to be excellent, almost cowboy-style, gospel, while the Faith for Today TV Quartet gives us the kind of note-perfect harmonizing we expect to hear from... well, look at the picture. You just know right away that these guys can sing! Violinist Virginia Fagal is also outstanding.

Though the sleeve claims, "This is a standard 78 rpm record," I used an LP needle and heard no reason to switch. Meanwhile, a Google check reveals that Faith for Today is still around on TV. Far out! Good tunes, good singing--that's my Giant Eagle advantage. (Wait--wrong commercial.)

Lee,
Thanks for the post and of course all others. I thoroughly enjoyed the simplicity of the guitar allowing the awesome vocals to prevail. Good recording from record to digital!

Thank you! I'm surprised by how well the Terry Pillow tracks sound--I was expecting the usual cut-rate Royale/Varsity fidelity.
