Six selections, unfortunately, not six discs. I'd love to have the entire set of this. In fact, I probably have other parts of it someplace in my scattered collection o' shellac.
So, I was all ready to put these up, and then I found a message board discussion of the label, at which I learned that Record-o-Mail 78s sound better when played with an LP needle. Sure enough, they do--so I re-ripped these. Three of the tracks are pretty hammed, though, so the full benefit of the stylus swap was not realized, and I've always wanted to type that.
Excellent fake versions of then-current hits--"then" being 1955. This particular Rock Around the Clock version shows up at a number of other cheap labels, including Prom and Tops,
Popular Extended Play Records PO-8 & 9.

The Longest Walk

I too have some records like that also, some tracks screaming "don't play me again" because they're so worn out!
Whist House of Blue Lights is Dick Warren & Jack Daniels With Herbie Layne's Orchestra Gateway (OH) 45 - 1129 (1955) The version of Rock around the clock does not sound like Dick Warren on Gateway (OH) 45 - 1124 (1955) The sax is more pronounced. Ain't that a shame is the flip to Dick Warren Gateway (OH) 45 - 1129 (1955) though the label states Ain't IT a shame by Art Rouse With The four jacks & Herbie Layne's Orchestra. Is the longest walk (1955) Eilleen Scott Gateway (OH) 45 - 1140? Cant place the other tracks sorry
You know I dig these soundalikes, awesome!
Listening to my Super Value Extended Play copy of "Rock Around..." I can hear that it's the Gabe Drake version released on Tops and Prom. My bad.
thanks for the info on gabe Drake. I missed http://musicyouwont.blogspot.co.uk/2008/06/crazy-man-crazy-bill-haley-covers-to.html any chance you could re-up?
