Sunday morning gospel: The Speer Family--Songs You've Requested

Today's LP was thrifted for the Sunday Morning Gospel cause by Diane Werts, and it's a great one.  Anything by the Speer Family is great, and, since this is something by the Speer Family, it is, therefore, great.  Can you imagine a time when everyday-looking people could wear everyday-people clothes and simply stand in front of a couple of microphones, and not only was it okay to do so, it was fashionable?  Do I have any idea what I just typed?  Anyway....

'50s and '60s Gospel LP covers are, as a rule, refreshingly real.  Of course, in Internet terms, "refreshingly real" means "Ha, ha!  Look at the ordinary people!"  I think it was with my generation (Boomers) that "real" acquired its modern meaning--i.e., "of celebrities."  But here the Speers look just like ordinary folk pretending to sing while the photographer snaps the shot.  And I've always wanted to type "But here the Speers...."

So, from Nashville, the Speer Family--Dad, Mom, Brock, Ben, and lead alto Ginger Smith.  I accidentally left the 78 setting on my preamp when I ripped this, but it sounds great, anyway.  Maybe the extra treble helped.

To the tracks: The Speer Family--Songs You've Requested

I Won't Turn Back
I'm Bound for That City
One By One
Standing By the River
I Was There When It Happened
O It Thrills Me
I Wanta Know
Then I Met the Master
Do You Know My Jesus?
Surely God Is Able
All of This and Heaven Too
Do Right and Come Smiling Through

Love these old songs, as a lad my mom & pop traveled and sang many of these old Speer Family songs! Thanks for enriching my life with these wonderful old songs!
