Halloween 2012 has been cancelled....

Well, at this blog, anyway. I recently got a copyright complaint from Brazil for posting Andy Williams' Are You in There? and now I'm told that two of my Halloween zips are being barred from download. (Those particular files are working for me, I should note, but apparently not for others.)

So, I just deleted all of my files.  I realize this is not very convenient, being in the middle of Halloween posting and all, but I do want to keep my blog.  Someone--maybe Mediafire itself--has been combing my posts for copyright violations, and I ain't sticking around that place, for obvious reasons.  The Brazilian complaint seems to have made my uploads a target--hopefully, my blog itself isn't being targeted as well.

I always figured that sticking mostly to 50- to 100-year-old material would protect me from the posting cops, but I was wrong.

I had planned to play it cool after the Andy Williams notice, but clearly I'm on someone's radar.

So it goes, sometimes.  I hope I won't have to do my archival work off-line from now on.  We can't have people using the Internet to celebrate and document popular music history, I guess.

What a shock! I have been following your blog off and on for several years. I believe you have been targeted unfairly. Unfortunately trolls cause blogs problems from time to time. Hope you can come back into full operation in the not too distant future. I truly appreciate all the work you have put into your blog over the years. Your many fans will miss your many contributions.

You might consider going private membership like some blogs have done. Here's my email if you decide to go private.

If you decide to publish my comment, please delete my email.

Regards,
Rich

What a bunch of malarkey. I was just going to dive into your annual Halloween posts, always a treat, and find this. Talk about the unjustified application of the law.
I'm sorry they've zeroed in on you. Guess I shouldn't be surprised, in an age when it is illegal for ME to make a copy of my OWN music! Ridiculous.
I hope this doesn't discourage you from resuming, sometime. This Halloween sure won't be the same!

SO here is how I see it...I can borrow a copy of your music, play it on my equipment or listen to it at your place, but I cannot borrow it off of the Internet and listen to it on my computer....do I have that right? Somehow that is not making sense to me.

Hang in there Lee...you are a good man and have shared with us an incredible amount that we would never have had the privilege to hear. For that you should be proud and we are indeed thankful.

That is just not fair!!! What is happening to this country?! Your Halloween slaylists were what introduced me to your blog and how AWESOME the music world "before Elvis" really is! Thankfully, I have copies of most of your slaylists from the last 3 seasons before the government spoiled everyone's fun...*sigh*

Thanks for all you do and share for music lovers of music that will never likely be re-released or under copyright. Good luck determining your next move. You'll be missed.

They can't win this fight, ultimately. There's a new paradigm and the old (read RICH) dogs won't let go of a bone that doesn't even exist anymore. They are too fat and lazy to come up with a new business model (there are tons of artists and writers and film makers who are making a ton of dough by encouraging internet sharing of their work). So it goes.

They can't win this fight, ultimately. But they can sure harass a lot of good people and piss off a good deal more.

Looks as if our freedom is dwindling away a little at a time. You have a great site here and I'm sorry that you are closing it down. God bless you my friend.

Thanks, but I'm hoping to keep going, though at a slower pace. Obviously, I won't be using Mediafire, but I figure that, if I stick to old and not very well-known material, I should be okay. Of course, "should" is always an iffy thing.
