R.I.P., George McGovern

He was my favorite liberal.  I may (and often do) rant about the modern left's insane attitude toward religion and/or its bizarre notion that freedom of speech=the number of bare breasts allowed on TV, and never mind such comparatively trivial concerns as, say, our ability to criticize the state without getting shot.  The current popular left is Hollywood-worshipful and deifying of data, with a libertarian streak that sometimes causes me to consider--for a nanosecond or two--going apolitical, but then someone like George talks on TV or in print and reminds me why I never will.

We never deserve our greats, but for some wonderful, unknown reason we get them anyway.  For me, Sunday is the day I thank my God for those uncountable gifts we barely deserve, and for which we so often forget to give thanks.  Hence, the perfect day to say thanks, and Godpeed, to George.
