SPACE--THE FINAL BUDGET CUT
Songs about space. And space ships. And faces from space. And shrinking men, for whom surrounding space gets bigger and bigger as they get smaller and smaller. As nearly always, all of these were ripped by me from my strange collection. Today's Halloween helping is mostly from vinyl, with two sides (The Coronet Orch. and Holst) from 78s. In space, no one can hear you practice the violin.

SPACE--THE FINAL BUDGET CUT, PART 2
More goofy space-related numbers, with a number of these numbers having "Moon" (or "Looner") in their title, though none of these songs are about the Halloween tradition of mooning. Just so you know.
Moon Winks goes back to the early 1900s--Googling gives me two or three conflicting exact dates. It's a pleasant and bland "three step" whose sheet music cover has the coolest man-in-the-moon illustration ever printed. Our recording comes from 1938. Dickie Goodman's delightfully stupid Luna Trip (1969) is the best kind of period piece, with its Walter Cronkite references and the lunar E.T. who constantly interrupts the broadcast. As someone who was "there" (i.e. watching the landing on TV), I remember the creatures-on-the-moon rumors going around at the time. Despite all the media hype to the contrary, 1969 was a very unhip time.
And, of course, you needed another recording of the Star Trek theme.

A cover of the "It's About Time" theme song? Crazy.
There's some nice Lee classics in there too. Thanks.
You must really love Screemin' Meemies by Merv Griffin--you have it on both slaylists :)
Oops!
Do I have to create an account with 4shared now to download or am I missing something? I know some of these places are sneaky about it, but I can usually figure out the free option... :(
Dang it. I was afraid of that. I seem to remember the same thing happening to me (and I have an account, obviously). Ummm.....
Looks like I'll have to migrate the zips (always wanted to type that) to Mediafire. That is, if 4Shared will let me.
Thanks for letting me know.
Did I mention, "dang it"?
Well, I could always get an account, I just didn't want to if I didn't have to...
As usual, nice post. I have to note that you changed your blog's overall look and I like it, keep up the good work.
Vik Venus is actually WMCA (NYC) radio jock Jack Spector.
Thanks for all the fine posts over the years (esp the Grofe ones)
