If I didn't mention it, could you tell that I cloned away two areas of Scotch Tape from this cover? I used the editing software that comes with my scanner, and it's better than the software I bought for that purpose. Which is handy, since I don't have the latter installed right now.
Jerome Hines is a Sunday Morning Gospel hero--perhaps the SMG hero. Kurt Kaiser's liner notes are so good, I had to scan them for you. Click for larger image:
The tracks are magnificent, and Kaiser's expert arrangements almost put me in the mood to forgive him for writing Pass It On. Almost. My favorite of the distinguished bunch is O For a Thousand Tongues to Sing, which I've never heard arranged or performed this beautifully. Meanwhile, let me offer the highest possible praise for There's a Man Goin' Round Takin' Names by calling the performance worthy of Paul Robeson. This is an awesome LP, and I got it completely new (still sealed) from 'Bay, so "restoring" it was a breeze. Each number is a gospel standard, except for the lovely Hines original, All These and More. No one told the story as well, or with as much genuine devotion, as the late Jerome Hines.
