Meet the Girls (Halo 50254, 1957)

It's time that you met the girls. Say hi to them. They're glad to meet you. They want you to stay with them. Forever. And ever. And ever. (Shrieking violins, fade)

I thrifted this gem at Goodwill last week. It was released in 1957, though most of the tracks are Majestic and Musicraft discs from the previous decade. Fine female vocalists, all--especially Toni Arden and Sunny Gale. And that cover! I hereby take back in full anything unkind I've ever said about the jackets of the Halo/Royale/Varsity line. Cut-rate covers can be among the best of all. You're staring at the proof.

Good pop vocal tracks, all, with the sound quality mostly decent throughout. No significant issues with condition. You will enjoy these. And the girls would enjoy your company. Forever. And ever. And ever. And.... (Shriek, shriek, shriek....)

Sunday morning gospel: The Bluegrass Edenaires

(Sorry if my texts are starting some distance below the blog images. I'm trying to align things to satisfy both Google Chrome and Firefox....)

Today's album offering, The (Bluegrass) Edenaires--Rise and Shine! was rescued from a 1994 cassette copy I made for Bev. The LP left my collection long ago, so I have no photos or write-up. But I did record the label info: Gloryland 5106; Columbus, Ohio. And a Google search only gives me two member obituaries: those of Ed and Edyth King (2000 and 2011), which I would give data from, but I'm rushing this to press. Just Google "Bluegrass Edenaires" and "Columbus Ohio." Anyone with information about (or memories of) this fine group, please feel free to share in the comment section. Ditto for anyone who can date Gloryland 5106.

This collection answers the question, "Genuine, toe-tapping bluegrass from central Ohio?" with a whooping "Yes!" (And "whooping yes" gives me a whooping 18,200 Google matches.) My favorites: Take Your Shoes Off Moses (That title alone would do it for me), Stair Way to Heaven (Ahhh... no, not that one), and Honey in the Rock.
