Fiscal Cliff Suite (2013)
My newest musical composition, utilizing the excellent multi-tracking and track mixing of my Sonar X2 composing software. You'll be hearing me multiplied by eight or nine, with each individual part recorded "live" (i.e., not in step-time) from my superb Casio WK-3800. (Don't let the "Casio" part put you off. )
Appropriately (or ironically?), I was late getting the Fiscal Cliff Suite finished. The sections/movements are: The Fiscal Cliff, No One Listens to Paul Krugman, New Year's Eve (Last Minute Deal?), The Fiscal Cliff Polka, and Godzilla vs. the Debt Ceiling. This weirdness is my brand of political commentary.
And no one does listen to poor Paul--that is, no one in a position to act on his always correct advice. Re "Last Minute Deal?" I wrote that particular section before the after-deadline deal was struck. At least, I think the deal happened after the deadline. Come to think of it, I don't remember for sure. Maybe it was simply the House vote that was late. Heck, I don't know. Something as over-covered as the Fiscal Crisis/Cliff/Deadline/Battle/Pending Deal is easy to get hazy about. It's the brain's defense against constantly repeated detail.

Lee, thanks for sharing your latest!
It was interesting to listen to (and mentally dissect, trying to identify the eight to nine separate Lees), and a delight to hear. You're also developing some nice percussion chops as well...
Whatever you've been doing - reading up on and parsing early Bach scores, or throwing tomatoes at the politicos on TV, or both, more likely - keep with it. We'll be here to listen, and to hand you more tomatoes, as needed.
Best to you, Bev, and the cats in 2013!
Kind regards,
Aging Child
I think this is probably the first time Paul Krugman has had a song written about him...! Good stuff too!
Aging Child,
Thanks! The percussion chops, however, are all Casio's, save for the cymbal crashes and occasional burst of movie-monster percussion. I just focus on playing with the beat!
Lee-wise, most musical lines are played one at a time, except for the piano parts, which I do all at once or in separate right and left hand parts. Thanks for the nice words!
Kevin,
Thanks! And you're probably correct about Krugman. Maybe I should do a Paul Krugman suite! He deserves one.
Well, "New Year's Eve (Last Minute Deal?)" was my favorite although the Polka number was quite uplifting! Send this Suiteto Congress and see if it helps!
If I can get those guys dancing the polka, there's hope for our country yet.
"New Year's Eve" was fun to do. The last part was the hardest. For some reason, the oom-pah piano part took a lot of takes to get right.
I'm not sure what might be wrong. I've downloaded and Windoze Media doesn't recognize the file.
These are real nice pieces you have here, nice to see someone that can both appreciate and play great music.
Vilstef,
Hm. I assume you're opening it as a zip? That's the only thing I can think of. I did a test download a couple days ago and it worked. Maybe there's a problem at Box.net?
Gilmarvinyl,
Thank you!
Nice, but thank God no-one listens to Kruggy!!!
