Fake hits of the fake sixties, part 3!
More gems from Capital Distributing Co. (Charlton), plus four Modern Sound tracks, taken from two title-less Modern Sound LPs. (Titles cost extra, so why bother?) Moden Sound, of course, is the LP equivalent of the Hit label. All four MS tracks are in stereo, but-- in the case of Up Tight and Rainy Day Women--very bad stereo... so I made those into mono. Day Tripper and My Bonnie sound way better, so I kept them as is. The only other filtering/audio trickery in this set consisted of de-clicking, EQing--the usual measures. Ve haf vays off making zeese tracks quieter.
Click hear to here. I mean, here to hear: Fake Hits of the Fake Sixties, Part 3!

No matter what, any Modern Sound release just rubs me wrong. The reason why they sound so awful has to do with the fact that hit songs dated so quickly that the labels that make the fake sound alike's had to make a recording asap, and that usually meant that the groups used were often sub par.
That, and they had no operating budget!
Now now...there are always not-quite-top-flight musicians looking to make a living, folks. The difference is that today you can make them sound like a million bucks with all the wonderful digital technology at hand while still churning out crap and nonsense...
I appreciate the fact you post this, Lee, I do still like to hear these recordings because regardless of the quality, or lack thereof, it brings back memories. My first recording of the 'Shaft' soundtrack was a Pickwick LP by 'Soul' Mann and The Brothers, and I still enjoy it as much as the real deal. In fact I have a playlist with them back-to-back. Thanks!
Where will it all end?!? Hopefully, I won't find out any time soon--I love this stuff!--Bill
There is more to come. Buwa-ha-haaaaa!
Glad you're enjoying. I love assembling this stuff. I do find, however, that wherever I can't stand the originals, I tend to not like the knock-offs. Logical, I suppose.
