For reasons I cannot begin to comprehend...

For reasons I cannot begin to comprehend, my latest ZIP file is not working.  It wouldn't be possible for me to have less of a notion WHY this is happening.

I assume the file is not opening for anyone else?  What should I do?

All I know to do is to gather my FLAC files into a folder, then choose the ZIP option.  The files are working fine in the folder, but nothing happens after I've zipped them.

Any advice would be appreciated.  There seems to be nothing whatsoever wrong with the individual files.  If they were corrupted, or whatever the term is, they wouldn't be opening in the first place, I wouldn't think.

I tried reinstalling VLC Player, but I got the message that my PC already has it.  Great, except that the player is not working for these files.  I'm totally stumped.

UPDATE: I just made another zip file (with other FLAC files), and VLC Player is having no problem with it.  So, quite obviously, VLC Player is my default zip file player--and still functioning as such.  Except, that is, for "Vintage Polka Party."

Why would the ZIP function work in one instance and not the other??

UPDATE #2: Timmy has confirmed that the zip is working on both his WMP and VLC player, so the problem (as I suspected, once I'd given the matter clear review) is unique to my PC, and it's because some files have multiple locations.  Thus, my PC doesn't know how to open them.

Maybe your should try saving the individual files as WAV, then see what happens when you zip & extract... To me, WAV files are just as good as FLAC's.

(to repeat comment I left at the "Polka" post): Lee, I downed this zip & extracted the files. All looks good. When i play each file using my windows media player, they all play great. When I use my VLC player, they all play perfect. NO PROB here.

Timmy,

Thanks! Glad to know. After thinking about the situation, it occurred to me that the problem is likely unique to my PC--reason being, I have some of the files in multiple locations. My (very) basic understanding is that my PC is confused by the multiple file locations. I appreciate the input.

I didn't have any trouble with the ZIP file, Lee. Downloaded, extracted and played as expected. I still use 7-Zip instead of relying on the built-in Windows functionality. Some may say I'm old fashioned, but it always works. :)

Ernie,

That's what matters! And, since that zip-file failure, things have been working fine. I gave trying to figure out what was behind the SNAFU.

Hi Ernie, 7-Zip is great for everything, especially for tracks that are Medleys. It unzips everything without a problem.
Windows Zip has a limit to the number of characters it will unzip, so if there are too many characters, think Medleys, it will not unzip those.
However, you can change how Windows Zip works, but it sounds like too much of a bother to me, when 7-Zip is the clear winner.

Hi Lee, I went ahead and downloaded this file.
Both Windows Zip and 7-Zip had no problems opening this file.
Windows Media, Windows Media Player Legacy, and VLC Media Player played the first track of your playlist without a problem.
So, who knows.

Bryan,

Thanks. Sounds like I should switch to 7-Zip!

Well, Lee, I have never had a problem with it. It is highly recommended.

All is swell. Thankfully, because it's a rainy day in Oregon, and I needs a serious amount of polkafication!
